U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a managerial review after a video widely shared on social media appeared to show an officer yelling at a Canadian driver, “Never come to the U.S. again!” near the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.
The 39-second clip, first posted to Reddit on September 25, shows a man in a CBP-marked pickup truck driving at high speed alongside the Canadian vehicle on Interstate 190. With his window rolled down, the officer can be heard shouting the phrase multiple times before driving off after realizing he was being recorded.
According to the map included in the video, the incident occurred on September 22, just a short distance from the border crossing.
CBP Response
In a statement, CBP spokesperson Mike Niezgoda said the agency is taking the matter seriously:
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection stresses honour and integrity in every aspect of our mission. CBP employees, officers and agents perform their duties with honour and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe. CBP is committed to ensuring that all employees are held to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and personal conduct.”
Niezgoda confirmed that a managerial review is underway, though privacy laws prevent the agency from commenting on specific employee cases.
The incident comes at a time of increased trade tensions between Canada and the U.S., which have contributed to a notable decline in cross-border traffic.
According to Statistics Canada, July 2025 saw more Americans travelling to Canada by car than Canadians travelling south of the border by car—something that, outside the COVID-19 pandemic, has not happened in more than two decades.
