Brampton, ON – The City of Brampton proudly honoured the contributions of Muslim communities today with a special flag raising ceremony at City Hall to recognize October as Islamic History Month. The event brought together community leaders, residents, and elected officials to celebrate the rich faith, culture, and traditions of Muslims in Brampton, across Canada, and around the world.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of learning, reflection, and connection. Throughout the month, residents are encouraged to attend open houses at local mosques, offering an opportunity to engage with Brampton’s vibrant Muslim community and deepen understanding of its history and contributions.
Regional Councillor Rowena Santos emphasized the importance of inclusivity and education:
“This is a time to celebrate, learn and reflect on the profound impact of Muslims in Brampton and beyond. Islamic History Month gives us the opportunity to not only honour those contributions but also to strengthen the bonds of unity that make our city so unique and welcoming.”
Mayor Patrick Brown echoed this sentiment, highlighting Brampton’s diversity as its strength:
“Brampton is home to one of the most diverse populations in Canada, and our Muslim community plays a vital role in shaping the cultural, social, and economic fabric of our city. By raising the flag today, we honour their contributions and reaffirm our commitment to building a city where everyone belongs.”
The City of Brampton invites all residents to participate in upcoming community events throughout October to celebrate Islamic History Month and to learn more about the faith, traditions, and contributions of Muslims locally and globally.
