Brampton Strengthens Commitment to Seniors With Expanded Support

Brampton continues to put seniors first, ensuring older adults in our community have the support they need to stay active, connected, and engaged. From free transit to free recreation programs, the City is committed to making life better for those who helped build our city.

At the September 24 Council meeting, members approved an important new motion that expands this support even further. Seniors clubs will now have free access to City recreation centre rooms on weekends for their meetings, activities, and programs — building on the weekday access already available at no cost.

“As Chair of Community Services, I was proud to support this motion,” said Regional Councillor Rowena Santos. “Our seniors are the heart of our community. By giving them more space and time to connect, we are investing in their health, wellbeing, and social inclusion.”

Mayor Patrick Brown also welcomed the move. “Brampton is a city that values its seniors. This decision ensures that they have greater opportunities to gather, stay active, and participate fully in community life. It’s about respect, dignity, and giving back to those who have given so much to us.”

As Chair of the Flower City Friends Club, Gian Paul expressed appreciation on behalf of local seniors: “On behalf of our members, I want to thank City Council, Mayor Brown, and Councillor Rowena Santos for their continued support. This decision will make a real difference in the lives of many seniors, helping them stay connected and active. We deeply value the City’s commitment to our community.”

The City also looks forward to the upcoming Brampton Older Adult Alliance Summit on Tuesday, October 14, a valuable opportunity to hear directly from seniors and community leaders on how to further strengthen supports.

Brampton is a city that celebrates and values its seniors, and these new measures highlight a shared commitment to keeping them at the heart of the community.
