Flower City Friends Club Hosts Health Seminar on Senior Isolation and Celebrates Community Spirit

Brampton, ON – Flower City Friends Club (FCFC) brought together over 100 members for a remarkable day of learning, celebration, and cultural entertainment with its latest health seminar focused on “Senior Isolation and Its Remedies.” The event, held on Sept. 21, 2025 at Paul Palleshi Recreation Centre, Brampton which blended education with lively social engagement, underscored FCFC’s mission to promote the well-being and connectedness of seniors in Brampton.

The program began with a warm welcome by Gian Paul, Chairperson of FCFC, who reminded members that the club’s vision is to provide a safe, inclusive space where seniors can come together, share experiences, and stay active. He emphasized that fighting senior isolation remains one of the club’s top priorities and that events like these are key to building healthier and happier lives for Brampton’s aging population.

The keynote session was delivered by Bhai Gulzar Singh, a certified counselor, who spoke about the emotional and physical consequences of isolation on seniors. “When seniors feel disconnected, their mental and physical health suffers. We must create regular opportunities for them to socialize and participate in group activities to help them lead healthier, happier lives,” he shared, urging families and community groups to be part of the solution.

The event was graced by Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, who attended as the Chief Guest and participated actively in the program. “The work FCFC is doing is remarkable. Seniors are the backbone of our community, and events like these help ensure they remain connected, active, and celebrated. It was a pleasure to join the members in both the seminar and the performances, sharing their joy and energy,” said Councillor Santos.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown also sent a special message recognizing the importance of the initiative: “I commend Flower City Friends Club for their leadership in addressing senior isolation and health challenges through meaningful seminars like this one. Their efforts contribute to a healthier, more connected Brampton and ensure that seniors remain valued, engaged members of our city.”

After the seminar, the atmosphere turned festive with an entertainment program that included a soulful Gurbani performance by Meena Modh and Shivali, whose voices created a serene and uplifting atmosphere. A thought-provoking skit on seniors’ issues, performed by Harmeet Kular along with Charanjit Walia, Joyti, Mrs. Chauhan, and Mrs. Dang, resonated deeply with the audience and highlighted the importance of family support and community engagement. Joyti Dadiwala also served as the master of ceremonies, keeping the program lively and engaging. Avtar Brar’s singing and dancing soon had the audience joining in, with members performing bhangra and gidha that brought laughter and joy to the entire hall.

A highlight of the day was the celebration of nine members’ birthdays: Jagmohan Singh Chauhan, Avtar Brar, Joyti Dadiwala, Manjit Bachoo, Gian Paul, Surinder Gandhi, Charanjit Singh Dhillon, Nishi Sharma, and Darshan Singh Kambo. A grand cake-cutting ceremony was held, with all nine members cutting the cake together as the hall joined in singing and cheering, turning the occasion into a truly heartwarming moment of unity.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Gian Paul, who expressed gratitude to Councillor Santos, Mayor Brown, all performers, volunteers, and members for their participation and support. “Today’s gathering was proof that together, we can create a strong, connected, and happy community for our seniors. FCFC will continue to provide a safe and supportive platform where seniors can stay active, informed, and socially engaged,” he said.

This event reaffirmed Flower City Friends Club’s ongoing commitment to fighting senior isolation, promoting health awareness, and building a vibrant, inclusive community where seniors are celebrated and empowered.
