The City of Brampton is pressing ahead with its review of local lodging house rules, aiming to strike a balance between safe, affordable housing and neighbourhood quality.
Lodging houses are defined as homes where five or more people rent accommodations separately. Tenants have their own private or shared bedrooms, while common areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms are shared. This setup differs from a traditional rental, where tenants lease and use the entire home together as one household.
As part of the review, the City is seeking feedback from residents and stakeholders on how best to modernize the framework. The focus is on preserving affordable housing, improving safety and accountability, reducing neighbourhood impacts, and making enforcement more effective.
A public survey will be open from September 22 to October 3, 2025. Brampton residents are encouraged to have their say and help shape the future of lodging house regulations.
