What began as a routine impaired driving stop in Mississauga has led to the discovery of a loaded illegal handgun and multiple firearms charges for two people.
Peel Regional Police say the incident happened on August 29 near Torbram Road and Drew Road, when officers pulled over a vehicle as part of an impaired driving investigation. A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded Glock 23 handgun, prompting the arrest of the two occupants.
Police identified the accused as 26-year-old Tia Reid of Courtice and 39-year-old Timothy Vernon of Brampton. Both face several charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and careless storage of a firearm or prohibited device.
Reid was additionally charged with failure to comply with a release order, while Vernon faces two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order. Both were held for bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Peel Regional Police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers, with a potential reward of up to $2,000.
