Comedian and television personality Kapil Sharma has broken his silence following a shooting incident at his Surrey-based eatery, Kap’s Cafe, by expressing heartfelt thanks to local authorities and the community for their solidarity and support.
In a touching Instagram post, Sharma shared a video alongside his wife Ginni Chatrath, featuring a visit from members of the Surrey Police Service and Mayor Brenda Locke, who dined at the cafe to show support after the unsettling event. The video showed smiles, conversation, and unity, symbolizing a community choosing peace in the face of violence.
“Thank you Mayor Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We’re truly grateful,” Sharma wrote, using hashtags like #peaceoverviolence and #beautifulbritishcolumbia.
The visit follows a July 10 shooting, when gunshots rang out outside the cafe around 1:50 a.m. Staff were inside at the time, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. Police said the building was left with at least 10 bullet holes in the windows and one pane completely shattered. The motive remains under investigation.
In the wake of the shooting, Kap’s Cafe closed temporarily for safety assessments and reopened on July 20. The official Instagram page of the cafe also shared gratitude, posting: “We are truly honoured to have @themayorofsurrey, members of @surreypoliceservice, and other respected officials visit @thekapscafe_. Your support and presence mean a lot to us and to the community we serve.”
The show of support from city officials and police has struck a chord not only with Sharma but with residents of Surrey, many of whom have praised the comedian’s resilience and the cafe’s welcoming spirit.
Now operating with renewed hope, Kap’s Cafe continues to be a symbol of community strength and solidarity — a place where laughter, unity, and courage are served alongside coffee.
