Caledon Truck Driver Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle $24.6M in Cocaine Across Sarnia Border

A Caledon truck driver is facing serious drug trafficking charges after Canadian border officers intercepted a massive cocaine shipment worth $24.6 million at the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia.

Onkar Kalsi, 29, was arrested on July 23 after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) flagged his commercial vehicle for secondary inspection. During the detailed search, CBSA officers uncovered seven duffel bags inside the trailer — each filled with bricks of suspected cocaine weighing a total of 197 kilograms.

Following the discovery, Kalsi was taken into custody and turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). He has been charged with importing cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking, offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The case is part of a broader pattern of cross-border drug smuggling operations that Canadian authorities are increasingly confronting. Officials say the investigation is ongoing as they assess whether the attempt is connected to larger organized crime networks.

“This significant cocaine seizure highlights the critical role our border services officers play in disrupting the illegal flow of drugs into Canada,” said Michael Prosia, CBSA’s Regional Director General for Southern Ontario. He praised the cooperation between the CBSA and RCMP for the successful interception.

The CBSA reports that in 2025 alone, more than 1,100 kilograms of cocaine have been seized from the U.S., along with over 500 kilograms from other international sources — raising serious concerns about the growing volume of narcotics crossing Canada’s southern border.

As the investigation continues, authorities reaffirm their commitment to border security and to protecting Canadian communities from the harms of drug trafficking
