The City of Brampton officially opened a new full-size cricket field at Creditview Sandalwood Park on July 15, 2025, reinforcing its title as Canada’s cricket capital and marking a major milestone in the city’s growing investment in sport infrastructure.
This premier facility includes professional-grade features such as player pavilions, a scoreboard, sight screens, irrigation systems, and field lighting. It adds to the park’s existing amenities, which include an accessible splash pad, a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, and multi-purpose sports fields for soccer, football, lacrosse, and cricket.
The new cricket field is the first sports infrastructure project completed under Brampton’s recently launched Sport Tourism Strategy. It positions the city to host more local, provincial, and national-level events, while supporting player development and creating new training and competition opportunities for residents. With a growing population, a strategic location, and modern facilities, Brampton continues to emerge as a high-performance sport and recreation hub in Ontario and beyond.
This project builds upon the city’s broader cricket infrastructure plan, which includes a $25 million year-round cricket facility currently under construction at Earnscliffe Park. Scheduled for completion in early 2026, the Earnscliffe Park facility will offer indoor and outdoor playing options to ensure uninterrupted access to the sport throughout the year.
The city is also investing approximately $10 million through its 2025 budget to improve cricket facilities across Brampton, including lighting and other enhancements. Currently, Brampton is home to 23 cricket fields, one tapeball pitch, and a growing list of facilities that serve 70 seasonal cricket organizations and thousands of hours of booked play annually.
In addition to Creditview Sandalwood Park, the city recently partnered with the Peel District School Board to open a new, fully lit cricket field with artificial turf wickets and player pavilions at Turner Fenton Secondary School — Brampton’s first joint-use cricket facility with the school board.
Mayor Patrick Brown praised the opening, calling the facility “another major step in our commitment to the sport and our community,” and highlighting the city’s leadership in building high-quality sport venues that foster local pride and attract major tournaments.
Regional Councillors Rowena Santos and Navjit Kaur Brar emphasized how the project supports youth development, community building, and healthier lifestyles, while Councillor Michael Palleschi noted its importance to the rapidly growing population of Wards 2 and 6.
Praim Persaud, Vice President of Cricket Canada and a Brampton Sports Hall of Fame inductee, called the new facility a “game-changer” and commended the city’s commitment to building International Cricket Council-standard infrastructure.
