Peel Police Dismantle Violent Crime Ring Behind $1.8M Home Invasion Spree: Project Ghost

Peel Regional Police have announced the successful takedown of a violent organized crime group responsible for more than 15 home invasions and high-value thefts across the Greater Toronto Area. The culmination of a major investigation dubbed Project Ghost, the operation resulted in multiple arrests and nearly 200 criminal charges, exposing a complex network that targeted luxury vehicles and high-end jewellery.

The investigation began after a series of violent incidents, the first of which occurred on August 1, 2024, in Brampton’s Ward 5 on Maybeck Drive, where suspects attempted to break into a home after spotting a BMW in the driveway. Within 30 minutes, the same suspects invaded another home on Boathouse Road, demanding keys to a Mercedes-Benz and leaving three victims stabbed — one critically. Surveillance footage led to arrests and the recovery of stolen property.

A subsequent attack on September 10, 2024, in Mississauga, where a Lamborghini driver was shot and seriously injured, was later linked to the same group. With evidence seized from phones and a suspect’s statement, investigators connected the ring to at least 13 additional criminal acts across Peel and Halton.

In total, 14 individuals — including four adults from Mississauga, two from Toronto, and three minors from Brampton — have been charged with 197 offences ranging from organized crime and robbery to firearms and attempted murder. Approximately $1.8 million worth of property was stolen, with one-third already recovered. Items seized included phones, laptops, a replica firearm, and suspected cocaine.

Peel police say the criminal group operated with a clear hierarchy, assigning roles such as scouting luxury vehicles, coordinating attacks, selling stolen goods, and recruiting youth to carry out the crimes. Police have referred the young persons charged and their families to support services aimed at rehabilitation and prevention.

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, who represents Ward 5, praised the police effort, highlighting that the first reported incident occurred in her community. “Project Ghost is the latest example of Peel Police’s focused, strategic response to organized crime,” she said, emphasizing the importance of prevention alongside enforcement. Santos linked this initiative to broader work underway through the National Public Safety Summit, which aims to address the root causes of crime and support safer, stronger communities.

Peel Regional Police are encouraging anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the Central Robbery Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3410, or submit tips anonymously via Peel Crime Stoppers.
