Olive Garden Set for Major Comeback as Canadian Expansion Plans Unveiled

Beloved for its unlimited breadsticks and family-friendly atmosphere, Olive Garden is preparing for a major return to the Canadian dining scene under new ownership.

Recipe Unlimited, the Canadian hospitality giant behind Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario’s, and the Pickle Barrel, has acquired all eight existing Olive Garden locations in Canada from U.S.-based Darden Restaurants, Inc. These locations—currently operating in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—will now form the foundation for a national expansion effort.

As part of a new development agreement, Recipe Unlimited has secured exclusive rights to launch and operate Olive Garden restaurants across Canada. The move marks a bold step in the company’s strategy to diversify its portfolio and strengthen its presence in the casual dining space.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Olive Garden into the Recipe family,” said Frank Hennessey, CEO of Recipe Unlimited. “It’s a brand with a strong legacy and loyal fan base. We see massive growth potential and look forward to bringing Olive Garden’s Italian-inspired dining experience to more Canadian communities.”

Though once present in the Greater Toronto Area, Olive Garden has been absent from key Ontario markets for years. With this deal, fans may soon see the iconic green signage—and signature soup, salad, and breadsticks—closer to home.

More details on new restaurant openings and locations are expected in the near future.
