New Woodbine GO Station Set to Transform Commuting in the GTA

A major infrastructure project in west Toronto is promising to reshape daily commuting for residents in Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, and beyond. Construction is now underway on the new Woodbine GO Station, a key addition to the Kitchener Line that will offer two-way, all-day service connecting Toronto’s Union Station with cities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Premier Doug Ford called the project a “game changer” for the region, emphasizing its role in boosting transit access during a time of economic challenges and uncertainty. The new station is strategically located on Highway 27, between the current Etobicoke North and Malton GO stations, enhancing access for thousands of daily riders.

Replacing the aging Etobicoke North GO station, Woodbine GO is designed to accommodate future growth with modern infrastructure and expanded capacity. It will feature new rail platforms, pedestrian bridges, accessible facilities, a bus loop, pickup and drop-off zones, and a passenger waiting area, all aimed at improving the commuter experience and supporting seamless transfers.

Woodbine Entertainment Group is contributing up to $170 million toward the construction, underlining the station’s role in supporting both transit needs and local economic development near Woodbine Racetrack.

The new station will not only enhance service along the Kitchener Line—which includes stops in Guelph, Georgetown, Brampton, and Mississauga—but will also provide critical links to the Union Pearson Express and Toronto Pearson Airport. Local transit agencies such as TTC, MiWay, Brampton Transit, and York Regional Transit will integrate with the new station to ensure a unified regional network.

Metrolinx anticipates that trains could arrive as often as every 15 minutes during peak hours once the station is operational. By 2041, it is expected to serve approximately 7,000 daily riders, marking it as one of the busiest hubs in the GO system.
