Flights Resume to Middle East as Airspace Reopens Following Tensions

With tensions easing in the Middle East and Qatari airspace reopening, airlines operating between India and the Gulf region have cautiously resumed flight services as of Tuesday, following a temporary shutdown on Monday.

Air India Express, India’s largest carrier in the Gulf, announced it has begun progressively restoring operations. The airline, which operates nearly 900 flights weekly to 13 destinations across the Middle East, confirmed that its first resumed route was Delhi–Muscat, followed by Mumbai–Muscat, Kozhikode–Muscat, Kozhikode–Riyadh, and Jaipur–Jeddah. Flights to and from major UAE cities — including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah — are expected to restart from Wednesday, June 25.

Air India also confirmed it is resuming services to the region from Tuesday. A spokesperson said flights to the Middle East, Europe, and eventually North America will be restored in phases as airspace access improves. The airline warned that some delays or cancellations may still occur due to necessary rerouting and longer flight paths. It emphasized that all flight operations will avoid airspaces currently assessed as unsafe, prioritizing passenger and crew safety.

SpiceJet, which runs 12 daily services between India and Dubai, resumed all flights Tuesday after cancelling some Monday evening. Meanwhile, IndiGo reported stabilizing its Gulf operations but noted that restrictions over Iranian airspace may lead to extended flight durations. The airline urged passengers to check their flight status regularly for updates.

International carriers are also ramping back up. Qatar Airways is working to restore its global network of over 170 destinations and assisting passengers with rebooking. Emirates, which rerouted some flights on Monday, said it would continue operating along paths that steer clear of conflict zones, though some delays may persist due to airspace congestion.

As carriers adapt to the changing conditions, most airlines have pledged to minimize disruption while maintaining strict safety protocols.
