Elon Musk Regrets Online Attacks on Trump as Feud Sparks Backlash

Elon Musk has taken a surprising step back from his escalating online feud with U.S. President Donald Trump, admitting that his recent social media posts may have crossed a line. “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote early Wednesday morning on X, the platform he owns.

The tech billionaire’s admission comes after a series of sharp online attacks that marked a dramatic fallout between Musk and Trump, once political allies. Musk had previously spent vast sums to support Trump’s re-election, but their alliance has since soured—publicly and explosively.

The feud has raised concerns over the potential fallout for Musk’s business empire. As a major government contractor, his companies—like SpaceX and Tesla—could face backlash. Trump has already threatened to cut Musk’s federal contracts, a warning that now seems less rhetorical than retaliatory.

Among Musk’s deleted posts was an unverified claim that the government was hiding details about Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. However, other critical posts remain, including one that blasted a new spending bill as an “abomination” and another that credited Musk for Trump’s 2024 victory.

Trump, in an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, made it clear he isn’t interested in reconciliation. He cautioned Musk against aligning with Democrats in upcoming elections, saying the billionaire could face “serious consequences” if he interferes.

The dramatic rift between two of the most powerful figures in American politics and business has drawn widespread attention, as observers watch to see whether Musk’s regrets can salvage his standing—or if the damage is already done.
