Mexican President Sheinbaum Confirms Attendance at G7 Summit in Alberta

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed she will attend next week’s G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta. Although not a member of the Group of Seven, Sheinbaum is among several world leaders invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to participate in the high-level talks.

Sheinbaum stated that her team is arranging bilateral meetings with several G7 leaders during the summit, including a session with U.S. President Donald Trump. The summit comes at a crucial time, as Canada, Mexico, and the United States are preparing for a renegotiation of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) next year, amid ongoing trade tensions and past tariff disputes with the U.S.

Other global leaders invited to the summit include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Prime Minister Carney stirred controversy recently with his invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following serious allegations by the RCMP linking Indian agents to violent activities in Canada. Nonetheless, Carney has emphasized the importance of broad international dialogue, especially with influential economies like India.

The Canadian government says the summit’s priorities include boosting global peace and security—particularly in the fight against foreign interference and transnational crime—while also focusing on economic growth and job creation.
