Kathy Borrelli Confirmed as MP for Windsor–Tecumseh–Lakeshore After Judicial Recount

A judicial recount has officially confirmed Conservative candidate Kathy Borrelli as the new Member of Parliament for Windsor–Tecumseh–Lakeshore, unseating Liberal incumbent Irek Kusmierczyk in one of the tightest federal races of the 2025 election.

Elections Canada announced Friday morning that Borrelli prevailed by a razor-thin margin of four votes, following a meticulous judicial recount requested by Kusmierczyk. The recount took place after the original election night result, which showed a 233-vote lead for Borrelli, was narrowed to 77 votes during the validation process.

In a statement released after the final count, Borrelli expressed gratitude to Elections Canada officials, legal observers, and volunteers for their diligence in upholding the democratic process.

“I deeply appreciate the integrity and professionalism of everyone involved in the recount,” said Borrelli. “This process has demonstrated the strength of our democracy and the importance of every single vote.”

She also extended thanks to Kusmierczyk for his years of service to the riding and pledged to work closely with his office to ensure a smooth transition.

“Irek has served this community with passion and dedication, and I thank him for that. I look forward to collaborating with his team to ensure residents experience a seamless handover,” she added.

Borrelli is expected to be sworn in as MP in the coming weeks and says she is ready to get to work on behalf of the constituents of Windsor–Tecumseh–Lakeshore.

Kusmierczyk, who had represented the riding since 2019, has not yet commented publicly on the final result following the recount confirmation.
