Frank and Oak, a once-prominent name in Canadian fashion retail, is set to close all 14 of its remaining stores across the country in the coming weeks, marking the end of its brick-and-mortar presence.
The closures come as part of a restructuring process following severe financial challenges exacerbated by COVID-19-related supply chain issues and mounting debt. The company filed for creditor protection in December 2024, citing over $71 million in liabilities.
This week, the Superior Court of Quebec approved the sale of Frank and Oak’s brand and intellectual property to Montreal-based Lamour Group and Thread Collective Inc. While the Frank and Oak brand will survive under new ownership, the current operating entity, UGC Canada Holdings Inc., is expected to file for bankruptcy and wind down its operations.
Frank and Oak currently has:
- 7 stores in Quebec
- 5 in Ontario
- 2 in Vancouver
These will all close by mid-May. The company will liquidate existing inventory, and e-commerce operations will continue for Canadian customers during and after the transition.
The new ownership group has stated that they are exploring options to relaunch the Frank and Oak brand in select markets or through online channels in the future.
