Planning a Trip to Brazil? Canadians Now Need a Visa

Canadian travellers planning a trip to Brazil will now need a visa before packing their bags. As of April 10, 2025, Brazil has introduced new entry requirements, making it mandatory for citizens of Canada, Australia, and the United States to obtain a visa before arrival.

The change, outlined in the Government of Canada’s official travel advisory, marks a shift from previous years when Canadians could enter Brazil without a visa for short visits. The updated policy applies to anyone entering for tourism, business, or other short-term stays.

Travellers must now apply for an electronic visa (eVisa) prior to departure. Once approved, the eVisa allows a stay of up to 90 days per year, with the option to request an extension by contacting Brazil’s Federal Police.

Those who already hold a valid physical visa stamped in their passport for the purpose of their visit will not need to reapply under the new rules.

More information—including visa requirements, pricing, and how to apply—can be found on the official Brazil eVisa website.
