Tesla Targeted: Vancouver Authorities Investigate Surge in Politically Driven Vandalism

Vancouver police are deploying more than 130 additional officers this weekend to maintain order at protests targeting Tesla dealerships and facilities, following a series of politically motivated incidents.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced they are actively investigating 28 anti-Tesla incidents that have occurred since January 20, which they believe stem from opposition to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s connections with the U.S. government.

According to police, 19 of these incidents took place at Tesla dealerships and charging stations, involving vandalism such as hateful graffiti, egg-throwing at vehicles, and smashed windshields. Another nine incidents targeted private Tesla vehicles, involving rocks, liquid thrown at cars, and damaged windshield wipers.

“While everyone has the right to lawful and peaceful expression, nobody has the right to use violence, damage property, or intimidate others,” said VPD spokesperson Constable Tania Visintin. “We understand people are distressed by world events, but damaging private property is not the answer.”

Police noted that no similar incidents were reported in the previous year, highlighting an escalation linked to Musk’s political activities in the U.S.

The heavy police presence this weekend aims to ensure protests remain peaceful and lawful. The deployment includes officers from the department’s public safety unit.

Tesla dealerships across Canada have recently experienced protests and vandalism, prompting organizers of the Vancouver International Auto Show to exclude Tesla over safety concerns for attendees and other exhibitors.
