London Blaze Grounds Toronto Flights: Heathrow Chaos Hits Pearson

A fiery overnight disaster in London has left Toronto’s Pearson International Airport in a lurch, with all incoming flights from Heathrow cancelled Friday. The British hub—Europe’s busiest—shuttered for the day after a substation blaze knocked out power, stranding travelers and scrambling schedules on both sides of the Atlantic.

Pearson reports at least five arriving flights from Heathrow axed, alongside two outbound trips. Heathrow officials pinned the outage on a fire at an electrical substation, warning of “significant disruption” stretching into the coming days. “Stay away from the airport,” they urged passengers, as the fallout ripples worldwide.

FlightRadar 24 tallied over 1,300 Heathrow flights diverted or scrubbed, with planes rerouted midair or grounded entirely. “Check with your airline,” advised Pearson spokesperson Erica Vella, as travelers brace for a messy weekend. From Toronto to London, the sparks of one fire have ignited a full-blown travel nightmare.
