The Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s most electrifying Twenty20 cricket tournament, is gearing up for its 18th season, promising another thrilling chapter of high-octane action. The IPL 2025 season will officially commence on March 22, 2025, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The tournament will run through May 25, 2025, culminating in a grand finale at the same iconic venue.
Organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL will feature 10 powerhouse teams battling it out across 74 matches in a home-and-away format, followed by playoffs. The participating teams are:

Teams finishing third and fourth will earn USD 8.43 million and USD 7.83 million, respectively. Additional individual awards, such as the Orange Cap (most runs) and Purple Cap (most wickets), will each carry a cash prize of USD 18,072, further fueling the competition.
Last year’s champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, clinched their third IPL title in 2024, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in a commanding performance at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. With a star-studded lineup and momentum on their side, KKR will aim to defend their crown against fierce contenders like five-time winners Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has redefined cricket, blending sport with entertainment and creating a global phenomenon.
