A 26-year-old Calgary man is facing serious charges after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) nabbed him trying to sneak 108 kilograms of cocaine into Canada from the U.S. The massive drug haul was uncovered on March 8, stashed inside a transport truck rolling through the Coutts port of entry.
Arshdeep Singh was arrested on the spot after border agents, during a secondary inspection, sniffed out the hidden stash. The truck’s load had originated south of the border, officials confirmed.
“This bust is a big win for keeping our streets safe,” said Ben Tame, CBSA director for Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan, in a statement. “Our officers are on the front lines, working hand-in-hand with the RCMP and Calgary Police Service to stop dangerous drugs like these from crossing into Canada.”
Singh is now charged with importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He’s set to face the music in the Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge on May 7.
