More than 84,000 Reese branded hitch receiver locks are off the road after Health Canada flagged a flaw that could turn trailers into runaway risks. Sold at Canadian Tire and other retailers from September 2019 to June 2024, these locks—used with 1/2” and 5/8” hitch receivers (part numbers 7057030, 7057266, 7054630, 7057166)—have a cap that can pop off over time or under stress, misaligning the hitch and drawbar.
“If safety chains aren’t in play, your trailer could break free and spark a crash,” the February 14 Health Canada notice warns. One Canadian driver dodged disaster with minor vehicle damage reported as of February 4, 2025—no injuries yet, but the stakes are high.
“Stop using these locks now and swap them at the store you bought them from,” Health Canada urges. For details, hit up Horizon Global at 1-800-632-3290 (Option 2, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. EST, Monday–Friday) or email aso_cs_fax@horizonglobal.com.
