Cocaine Convict Kicked Back: ICE Boots Canadian Drug Runner to Homeland

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has sent a Canadian drug trafficker packing, deporting 32-year-old Christopher Anthony Frater back to Canada on March 7 after his 2023 conviction for hauling over 125 pounds of cocaine across the U.S.

ICE confirmed Tuesday that Frater, nabbed in 2022, was handed over to Canadian authorities last week under the Canadian Treaty Transfer program. The bust went down on July 13, 2022, when Omaha police pulled him over in a rented ride en route from Los Angeles to New York. “Several traffic violations” tipped them off, and Frater’s shaky story about his trip didn’t help his case, authorities said.

A K-9 unit sniffed out trouble, leading cops to three Home Depot boxes stuffed with more than 125 pounds of coke. Frater was convicted in Nebraska’s U.S. District Court on September 14, 2023, for possession with intent to distribute five kilos or more of cocaine, earning a 10-year stint behind bars. ICE tracked him down at a federal prison in Ray Brook, New York, and, citing his “alien status” and rap sheet, shipped him out.

Frater crossed back into Canada via Ogdensburg, New York—just south of Ottawa—last Thursday. Where he’ll serve the rest of his time remains a mystery for now.

The move aligns with President Donald Trump’s renewed hardline stance on deporting “criminal aliens” since retaking the White House in January, targeting those deemed threats to U.S. security. For Frater, the road trip’s over—it’s Canada’s turn to handle him.
