China has secured second place in the Global Soft Power Index 2025, surpassing the United Kingdom in the latest rankings released by Brand Finance. The United States remains at No.1 with a score of 79.5 out of 100, despite a decline in its global reputation.
China achieved its highest-ever ranking, scoring 72.8 out of 100, with notable improvements in six of the eight soft power pillars and two-thirds of the assessed attributes. Analysts attribute this rise to initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), domestic stability, and the growing global presence of Chinese brands.

U.S. Reputation Declines: While the U.S. remains No.1, its global reputation ranking has dropped four places to 15th. The governance matrix of the U.S. also fell four spots to 10th place.
Canada ranks 7th, maintaining its position among the top 10 most influential countries in the world. The report highlights Canada’s strong global reputation, particularly in governance, culture, and international relations.
India ranks 29th, slipping one place from its 28th position in 2023. The report acknowledges India’s growing regional influence but suggests its global reputation score should be higher based on its overall standing.
David Haigh, Chairman of Brand Finance, noted that China’s ranking reflects its ongoing efforts to enhance economic influence, cultural promotion, and global reputation as a stable and well-governed nation.
