Gene Hackman’s Nephew Urges Restraint Amid Speculation Over Actor’s Death

Tim Hackman, nephew of the late Hollywood icon Gene Hackman, has called for patience and positivity as the family awaits clarity on the mysterious deaths of the actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The couple, aged 95 and 65 respectively, were discovered deceased alongside their dog Zinna in their Santa Fe home last week, a case the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has labeled “suspicious.” In an interview with Us Weekly, Tim emphasized the family’s reluctance to entertain unverified theories pending official findings.

“We’re awaiting toxicology results, which will provide definitive answers,” Tim stated, distancing himself from rampant speculation. “It’s tempting to dwell on negative possibilities, but we’re focused on staying positive until the truth emerges.” He acknowledged the unsettling details—such as the mummified state of the couple’s bodies—have shifted perceptions, noting that while Hackman’s advanced age suggested a natural passing, the circumstances suggest otherwise. Reflecting on his uncle’s dual role as a relative and a celebrated figure, Tim admitted to moments of awe, recalling, “I was both a fan and a nephew—sometimes it struck me, ‘That’s Gene Hackman standing there.’”

Investigators have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning, with the New Mexico Gas Company reporting no significant leaks, though a minor stove issue and four code violations were identified. Authorities caution that determining the cause of death may take weeks, leaving lingering questions about the tragedy that claimed the Oscar-winning star of The French Connection and Unforgiven.
