One of Ontario’s tightest electoral battles ended with just 20 votes separating the top two candidates, as Progressive Conservative incumbent Sheref Sabawy narrowly edged out Liberal challenger Qasir Dar in Mississauga–Erin Mills.
With 100% of polls reporting, Sabawy secured 16,665 votes (44.25%), while Dar finished just behind with 16,645 votes (44.20%), according to Elections Ontario. Given the razor-thin margin, a recount is highly likely.

This nail-biting contest stands in contrast to other Mississauga ridings, where PC candidates won by more comfortable margins, continuing their city-wide dominance for the third consecutive election.
Notably, the PCs secured a major upset in Mississauga East–Cooksville, where Silvia Gualtieri defeated Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie, delivering a significant blow to the Liberal resurgence effort.
The Progressive Conservatives have now swept all Mississauga ridings for three elections in a row, a trend that began in 2018. The result further solidifies Premier Doug Ford’s mandate, as his party secured a third straight majority government.
With the final count in Mississauga–Erin Mills so close, all eyes will be on Elections Ontario’s decision on a possible recount—one that could determine if Sabawy’s win holds or if the Liberals can pull off a dramatic reversal.
