Brampton East is set to become home to the city’s largest transit facility, a transformative project that will enhance local transit infrastructure and stimulate economic growth. Located at Highway 50 and Cadetta Road, the new Cadetta Johnston Transit Facility will create approximately 1,000 new jobs for residents and significantly expand Brampton Transit’s capacity to serve the city’s growing population.
Member of Parliament for Brampton East, Maninder Sidhu, recently met with Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh and Brampton’s transit leadership team to receive an update on the project and discuss further collaboration. MP Sidhu played a key role in securing $69.9 million in federal funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) to bring this facility to life.
“Investing in Brampton’s transit infrastructure means investing in our community’s future,” said MP Maninder Sidhu. “This new facility will create thousands of good-paying jobs while expanding transit services for our residents. I am proud to have worked alongside my fellow Brampton MPs to secure this critical federal investment. This is a big win for Brampton and a testament to what we can achieve when all levels of government come together for the betterment of our city.”

Mayor Patrick Brown also praised the project, stating: “Breaking ground on Brampton’s third transit facility is a significant milestone for our city. This new facility will not only help us meet the growing demand for public transit but also underscores our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. With the support of our federal and provincial partners, we are paving the way for a modern transit system benefiting residents today and generations to come.”

The first phase of the Cadetta Johnston Transit Facility will include a 460,000 square-foot building, designed to house approximately 250 buses. Plans for future electrification are also in place, pending additional funding, aligning with Brampton’s broader environmental sustainability goals.
The project has received a total of $128.1 million in funding through ICIP, with:
- $69.9 million from the Government of Canada
- $58.2 million from the Government of Ontario
- $154.8 million from the City of Brampton to complete the design and construction of Phase One
The Cadetta Johnston Transit Facility will be a game-changer for Brampton, enhancing transit efficiency, supporting environmental initiatives, and creating thousands of jobs. As Brampton continues to grow, investments like this will ensure that public transit remains accessible, reliable, and future-ready.
