Actor says he’s “numb” over the passing of his longtime canine companion
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is grieving the loss of his beloved French bulldog, Hobbs, who passed away peacefully in the night.
The 52-year-old actor took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the heartbreaking news, expressing his deep sadness over the loss while also reflecting on the love and joy Hobbs brought to his family.
“I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family and we’re so grateful he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night,” Johnson wrote.
To honor Hobbs’ memory, Johnson shared a heartfelt post featuring the song “What’s Going On in Your World” by George Strait, which he felt captured his emotions.
“One of my favorite songs felt appropriate here, as I wonder what’s going on in his new world, because I know what it’s like in mine,” he wrote. “Not sure how spirits work but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again.”
Hobbs, who was named after Johnson’s Fast & Furious character, was adopted in 2015, alongside his late brother Brutus, who tragically passed away that same year after ingesting a toxic mushroom.
Hobbs went on to become more than just a pet—he even had a cameo in Johnson’s 2019 film Hobbs & Shaw.
“As producer of Hobbs & Shaw, I thought it was the right thing to do to actually cast my French bulldog in our movie. Nepotism shmepotism,” Johnson once joked.
Johnson, who shares daughters Jasmine (9) and Tiana (6) with wife Lauren Hashian, and Simone (23) with ex-wife Dany Garcia, has always been vocal about the importance of family—including his four-legged members.
Though Hobbs is no longer physically by his side, Johnson’s words make it clear that his loyal companion will never be forgotten.
