Bonnie Crombie Endorses Mark Carney in Liberal Leadership Race

Ontario Liberal leader backs former Bank of Canada governor, citing economic expertise

Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie has officially endorsed Mark Carney in his bid to become the next leader of the federal Liberal Party, calling him the right person to guide Canada through economic uncertainty.

“Staring down the threat of Donald Trump’s tariffs, it is more clear than ever that we need leaders who have the right priorities,” Crombie said in a statement released Tuesday.

She emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes economic growth, healthcare improvements, and stability for Canadians.

“I believe Mark Carney is that kind of leader,” she added.

Carney, a former Bank of Canada governor, is one of four candidates vying to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Also in the race are former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, Liberal House Leader Karina Gould, and former MP Frank Baylis.

Expressing confidence in Carney’s leadership, Crombie said she looks forward to working with him to advance policies benefiting both Ontario and Canada.

“I’m proud to offer him my support to be the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada,” she said.

Carney acknowledged the endorsement in a social media post Tuesday, thanking Crombie for her advocacy on healthcare access and economic growth.

“Thank you @BonnieCrombie—for your support, for your strong advocacy to help Ontarians get better access to a family doctor, and for putting economic growth first,” he wrote.

With Crombie’s backing, Carney strengthens his position in the leadership race, potentially consolidating support among centrist and Ontario-based Liberal voters.
