Trillium Health Partners (THP) has received a significant donation from the Shah Family Foundation for the construction of a new specialty hospital at the site of the current Mississauga Hospital. This new facility, named the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, is set to begin construction in 2025.
The donation amount has not been disclosed, but the news release describes it as “landmark” and “monumental.” Caroline Riseboro, president and CEO of Trillium Health Partners Foundation, emphasized that the Shah family’s focus is on enhancing future healthcare for women and children.
The new hospital is expected to be the first of its kind in Ontario, dedicated to women and children’s health. It will provide specialized services, integrated care, and strong health system partnerships to support the community from prenatal care to all stages of life for women and children.
Key features of the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children include:
- 31 modern birthing suites
- 53 postpartum beds
- An expanded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with couplet suites
- 36 pediatric beds
- Surgical suites
- A full range of reproductive, gynecological, neonatal, and children’s health services

Kris Shah, president of the Shah Family Foundation, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the community and hopes the donation will inspire others to support healthcare initiatives.
The Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children is part of the new Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital project. During construction, all women’s and children’s services will be provided at Credit Valley Hospital (CVH).
