The Toronto Raptors saw their playoff run come to an end with a 114-102 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a decisive Game 7, closing out a tightly contested first-round series.
Despite a strong effort, Toronto struggled in a pivotal third quarter that ultimately proved decisive. After a 49-49 tie at halftime, Cleveland surged ahead with a dominant 38-19 run in the third, building a lead the Raptors could not overcome.
Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 24 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while RJ Barrett added 23 points along with six assists and four rebounds. Barrett, a Mississauga native, also contributed defensively with three steals.
Cleveland was powered by Jarrett Allen, who delivered a standout performance with 22 points and 19 rebounds, dominating the paint and helping the Cavaliers control the boards, particularly in the third quarter.
Toronto’s young roster showed resilience throughout the series, with emerging talents like Jamal Shead and Ja’Kobe Walter stepping up in the absence of key players, including Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley due to injuries.
Head coach Darko Rajakovic praised his team’s effort, calling the season “an absolute success” and highlighting the growth and competitiveness shown by the squad. The Raptors exceeded expectations this year, finishing with a 46-36 record and securing the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference after many had predicted a much lower finish.
Although the loss ends their playoff journey, the Raptors’ ability to push one of the league’s highest-spending teams to a Game 7 has been widely viewed as a statement of their potential. Barnes emphasized the team’s identity as a hardworking and resilient group, noting that the experience gained will be crucial for future success.
With a young core continuing to develop, Toronto now shifts focus to building on this season’s progress, aiming to return stronger in the next campaign.
