Toronto Police Seek Public Help to Identify Shooters in Fatal Attack on Brampton Man

Toronto police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating suspects involved in the fatal shooting of Arslan Ahmad, a 21-year-old Brampton resident, who succumbed to his injuries nearly a week after the attack.

The shooting took place shortly after midnight on August 27, 2024, at a business in a plaza near Sheppard Avenue West and Weston Road in Toronto. According to the Toronto Police Service, the area was crowded at the time of the shooting, with dozens of people present when gunfire erupted.

Ahmad, a university student, was found shot inside the business. Despite first responders’ efforts to save his life, Ahmad was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He remained in care for nearly a week before passing away from his injuries.

Calling the shooting a “cowardly act,” Detective Sergeant Brandon Price urged anyone with information to come forward. Police have since released security footage from the night of the killing, hoping it will lead to the identification and capture of the suspects.

The video shows a white Toyota Rav4 arriving at the scene before two suspects exit the vehicle and approach a nearby home. Moments later, they are seen firing several shots toward the home before fleeing back to the vehicle. A second camera angle captures the suspects firing multiple rounds before escaping in the vehicle.

The first suspect is described as having a thin build and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, and dark shoes. The second suspect, also thin but slightly taller, was wearing a grey hoodie, dark pants, and dark shoes. The suspect vehicle, believed to be a newer model white Toyota Rav4, is distinctive with its black roof, black rims, and tinted windows. Police suggest the vehicle may have a personalized license plate.

In addition to the two shooters, investigators are also looking for the driver of the getaway vehicle, though no description has been provided for the third suspect.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects or vehicle is urged to contact the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-2222. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca. Anonymous tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

This tragic incident has left the Brampton and Toronto communities in shock, as police intensify efforts to track down those responsible for Ahmad’s death.
