Toronto: Ticket prices for Canada’s opening match at the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto have surged dramatically on resale platforms, with fans facing steep costs to secure a seat for the highly anticipated game.
Canada is set to open its campaign on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, after the European side delivered a surprising victory over Italy in a playoff qualifier, winning 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. The result confirmed Bosnia as Canada’s first opponent in what is expected to be a closely watched Group B matchup.
Despite the recent confirmation of the opponent, ticket demand has already driven resale prices to extraordinary levels. Listings on secondary marketplaces show limited availability, with only a few hundred tickets remaining. Prices currently range from nearly $2,000 for the most affordable seats to well over $130,000 for premium options at BMO Field, which will operate as Toronto Stadium during the tournament.
With FIFA’s official resale platform temporarily closed and not scheduled to reopen until later this week, fans have been left with little choice but to turn to third-party sellers, further inflating prices due to limited supply and high demand.
Toronto will host six matches during the tournament, including Canada’s opener and a Round of 32 fixture on July 2, adding to the city’s importance as a key venue for the global event. Meanwhile, Canada’s remaining group-stage matches are scheduled to take place in Vancouver.
Canada enters the tournament in Group B alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, and Qatar. The top two teams from each group, along with the best-performing third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout rounds.
The sharp rise in resale prices reflects not only the excitement surrounding Canada’s participation on home soil but also the global appeal of the World Cup, as fans from across the country and beyond compete for limited seats at one of the sport’s biggest stages.
