Ruby Sahota MP Applauds Brampton Civic Hospital’s Cord Blood Collection Achievements

Yesterday marked a significant milestone as Brampton Civic Hospital celebrated its 10-year anniversary of participating in and facilitating Cord Blood Collection. Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, commended the hospital for its decade-long commitment to this critical healthcare initiative.

For the past ten years, Brampton Civic Hospital has been at the forefront of Cord Blood Collection in Canada. Their dedicated efforts have resulted in the collection of nearly 10,000 units of cord blood. These units have provided life-saving treatments to patients worldwide, addressing over 80 serious health conditions, including various forms of cancer, sickle cell disease, and numerous immune system and metabolic disorders .

MP Ruby Sahota expressed her gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Brampton Civic Hospital, acknowledging their vital role in the community. “Thank you to everyone at the Brampton Civic Hospital for supporting our community with initiatives like this. The people working to make our hospital function are those who show up for our community every single day. The work they do has saved countless lives,” Sahota stated.

Cord blood, which is collected from the umbilical cord and placenta following the birth of a healthy baby, contains valuable stem cells that can be used in treatments for patients who require stem cell transplants. The process is safe for both mother and baby, posing no risk during or after the delivery. Brampton Civic Hospital is one of only four hospitals in Canada where mothers can donate their baby’s cord blood to the Canadian Blood Services’ Cord Blood Bank.

MP Sonia Sidhu also praised the hospital’s achievements, stating, “Brampton Civic Hospital’s decade-long dedication to cord blood collection exemplifies their commitment to innovative healthcare solutions. Their efforts have not only saved lives but also positioned Brampton as a leader in medical advancements. The hospital staff and volunteers deserve immense recognition for their unwavering service and contribution to global health.”

This milestone reflects Brampton Civic Hospital’s ongoing dedication to advancing healthcare and providing critical medical resources to those in need. The hospital continues to be a beacon of hope and a source of life-saving treatments for patients not just in Canada but around the globe.
