Mississauga, ON – A 39-year-old man with a Canada-wide driving prohibition has been arrested and charged following a dangerous hit-and-run rampage along Dixie Road in Mississauga on the morning of June 12, Peel Regional Police announced Monday.
The accused, Gary Walker, of no fixed address, is alleged to have caused multiple crashes, attempted a carjacking, and driven a stolen pickup truck at twice the posted speed limit, endangering lives along a six-kilometre stretch between the QEW and Eastgate Parkway.
Around 8 a.m., 911 dispatchers received numerous calls about a black Ford F-250 being driven erratically near Dixie Road and the QEW. Responding officers found the truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, before veering onto the sidewalk, then slamming into several vehicles.
Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled at high speed. “Due to the significant risk posed to the public, officers engaged in pursuit,” police said.
The chaos came to a halt after the truck struck a pole and became inoperable. The suspect then allegedly tried to carjack another vehicle, but officers quickly intervened and arrested him.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, though multiple vehicles were damaged. Police confirmed the Ford F-250 had been stolen and was using counterfeit plates. The suspect was also allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time.
Gary Walker faces a staggering list of charges, including:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Flight from peace officer
- Operation while impaired by drugs
- Robbery
- Operation while prohibited
- Failure to stop after accident
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Public mischief
- Failure to comply with a release order
Walker has been prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada since 2012, and is currently under nine separate provincial driving bans, with multiple past convictions for impaired and suspended driving.
Bail was denied, and Walker remains in custody as the investigation continues.
