Petition Demands Amazon Remove ‘Disrespectful’ Political Products Amid Canadian Election

A petition urging Amazon to remove what are being described as “disrespectful” political products from its Canadian platform is gaining traction as the federal election nears. Launched by Helen Lemon on Change.org, the petition singles out items such as flags bearing the phrase “F*ck Carney,” referring to Liberal Party leader Mark Carney.

In her petition, Lemon expressed deep concern over the availability and promotion of merchandise that targets political candidates with profanity and derogatory messaging. “I am in deep disappointment and shock by the distribution and sale of disrespectful products that target specific individuals in the Canadian federal election,” she wrote.

Lemon emphasized that the petition is not about restricting freedom of speech, but rather about encouraging “decency, respect, and fairness in a democratic society.” She believes the presence of such items on a major retail platform undermines the integrity of the electoral process and fosters unnecessary division and hostility.

Amazon, however, has declined to remove the products in question. In a statement, the company said it provides a wide range of viewpoints and does not exclude products simply because some may find them objectionable. Amazon confirmed it reviewed the listings cited in the petition and determined they do not violate its current policies.

The company added that it provides guidance to both customers and sellers, but ultimately maintains a platform that supports a diversity of perspectives—even those that may be offensive to some.

As of Thursday morning, Lemon’s petition had collected more than 1,200 signatures. The debate it has sparked highlights a broader conversation in Canada about the boundaries of political discourse and the responsibilities of online retailers during election periods.
