People Against Littering (PAL) Leads Successful Cleanup at Lakeland Village Park Despite Rainy and Icy Conditions

Undeterred by freezing rain and icy conditions, over 50 enthusiastic residents, including men, women, children, and seniors, gathered at Lakeland Village Park on March 30, 2025, for a successful cleanup organized by People Against Littering (PAL). The event witnessed strong community participation, with Regional Councillor Paul Vicente taking the lead alongside his three-person team, who arrived early and accounted for almost half of the trash collected.

“It’s inspiring to see the community come together, regardless of the weather, to make Brampton cleaner and greener,” said Paul Vicente. “Events like this highlight the commitment of our residents to keeping public spaces free of litter. I’m proud to stand with them in this effort.”

The event was well-organized under the leadership of Bill Godfrey, President of PAL, and his dedicated team, who ensured that everything was set up by 10 AM. Registration, free supplies, and equipment were provided to all participants, and the cleanup operation commenced promptly at 10:15 AM.

“Our vision is to see the City of Brampton take a leadership role in implementing stricter bylaws to ensure that parks across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) remain litter-free,” said Bill Godfrey. “PAL is committed to fostering a culture of cleanliness and community pride by engaging residents and encouraging municipalities to adopt stronger policies.”

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, a long-time supporter of PAL, also participated in the cleanup despite her extremely busy schedule. “PAL’s work goes beyond just cleaning up parks—it’s about instilling a sense of responsibility in our communities,” said Rowena Santos. “Their dedication has set an excellent example for others to follow, and I’m proud to continue supporting this important cause.”

Amandeep Sodhi, Liberal Party of Canada candidate for Brampton Centre, also joined the initiative and praised the efforts of PAL and the volunteers. “Community-led efforts like this bring positive change and foster a sense of ownership and pride in our neighborhoods,” said Amandeep Sodhi. “PAL’s work serves as a reminder that when we work together, we can create cleaner, safer spaces for everyone.”

The event was further enhanced by the participation of community members and supporters. “It was a joy to have my friend with his beautiful wife and their delightful young daughter participate,” said Bill Godfrey. “It was also great seeing Amritpal Dhillon again! This unselfish gentleman cares deeply about Lakeland Park and regularly picks up litter. Thank you, Amritpal! He could use some help, people!”

Special gratitude was extended to Gian Paul, whose ongoing support is invaluable to PAL, and to Jatinder Paul, Anuja Kabuli, and dedicated PAL volunteers Victoria Reynolds and Doug Grainger, whose commitment to keeping the community clean was evident during the event.

In total, 14 P.A.L.s contributed 20 hours of dedicated work, making a remarkable impact on the cleanliness of Lakeland Village Park.

“Great job, everyone! Your enthusiasm and dedication continue to make a real difference,” said Bill Godfrey, as the event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all participants and volunteers. With strong community engagement and support from local leaders, PAL’s efforts are poised to expand their positive impact across Brampton and beyond.
