Pakistan Navy rescues stranded sailors in Arabian Sea

In a humanitarian maritime operation, the Pakistan Navy along with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency provided emergency assistance to a group of stranded sailors aboard an Indian vessel in the Arabian Sea.

According to security sources, the vessel — MV Gautam — experienced a technical malfunction while travelling from Oman to India. The distress situation was flagged after the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre Mumbai reached out to Pakistani authorities requesting urgent help.

The crew consisted of seven members, including six Indian nationals and one Indonesian sailor. Responding swiftly, Pakistan deployed its patrol vessel PMSS Kashmir to the location.

Rescue teams provided food, medical aid and technical support to stabilize the situation. Authorities confirmed that assistance efforts are still ongoing as the vessel remains at sea.

This operation highlights continued maritime co-operation in emergency situations, even between countries with complex diplomatic relations. Rescue efforts at sea typically follow international humanitarian protocols, where saving lives takes priority over political considerations.

Notably, this is the second such rescue in recent weeks. In April, the Pakistan Navy carried out another mission in the North Arabian Sea, rescuing 18 crew members of a distressed merchant vessel, including nationals from multiple countries across Asia.

The latest incident underscores the importance of regional co-ordination and rapid response systems in ensuring safety across one of the world’s busiest and most strategically important maritime routes.
