A tragic stampede at a religious congregation in Pulrai village, Hathras district, claimed the lives of at least 130 people and left several others injured on Tuesday, according to police reports.
Etah Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh stated that the incident occurred during a ‘satsang’ gathering. “Twenty-seven bodies have arrived at Etah hospital, including 23 women, three children, and one man,” Singh reported. The crowd had amassed in large numbers for the event, leading to the deadly stampede.
Sikandara Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar noted that overcrowding was the apparent cause of the stampede.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and directed officials to promptly reach the accident site to conduct relief operations.
