Ontario Champions Senior Wellness with $6 Million Community Grant

The Ontario government is proud to announce an investment of up to $6 million through the Seniors Community Grant Program, supporting 282 community projects designed to help seniors stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected.

“The Seniors Community Grants Program is a testament to our commitment to local communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “We are delighted to fund numerous programs that bring older adults together, combat social isolation, promote new skills, and encourage fitness and social engagement within their neighborhoods.”

Each project can receive up to $25,000, funding local programs, services, and events that offer seniors opportunities for social inclusion, volunteerism, and community involvement. The Seniors Community Grants Program is unique in Ontario, targeting social isolation, combating ageism, and fostering positive connections among seniors.

Innovative Projects Funded This Year Include:

  • Art Therapy Workshops: Serving 500 older adults in Markham and across York Region.
  • Educational Workshops: Covering cyber safety, nutrition, mental health, and new sports and fitness activities in Port Hope.
  • Intergenerational Musical and Social Activities: Connecting approximately 45 older adults with high school students in Waterloo.
  • Volunteerism and Educational Programming: Developing and delivering programs in Picton.
  • Activities for Newcomer Seniors: Providing opportunities for older newcomers to stay active and connected in Sault Ste. Marie.

This announcement coincides with Seniors Month in Ontario, a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of seniors across the province. Earlier this month, Ontario also announced ongoing funding for over 300 Seniors Active Living Centres, which connect seniors to a variety of activities, programs, and services within their communities.
