Today, the Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities, alongside Shafqat Ali, Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre, and Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, showcased the transformative allocations in Budget 2024 aimed at fostering generational fairness. Labelled “Fairness for Every Generation,” the budget presents a comprehensive strategy to bolster economic and social equity across all ages in Canada.

Budget 2024 focuses on three pivotal areas: housing development, cost of living reductions, and economic growth, with an emphasis on initiatives like the Public Lands for Homes Plan and the Canadian Rental Protection Fund. These measures are expected to drastically improve the housing market by facilitating the creation of 3.87 million new homes by 2031.

An additional highlight includes the investment of $60 million over five years to Futurpreneur Canada. This initiative is projected to support approximately 6,250 new young entrepreneurs by 2029, further building on the 17,700 individuals already aided by the organization.

Minister Kamal Khera remarked, “With Budget 2024, we are doubling down on our commitment to create a fairer, more inclusive Canada. By empowering young entrepreneurs in Brampton and across the nation, we are laying the groundwork for a prosperous future where every generation can thrive.”

Shafqat Ali added, “With $161.5 million in federal funding, Futurpreneur Canada has been a catalyst in transforming the entrepreneurial landscape, fostering innovation and creating significant employment opportunities. It’s a testament to the importance of nurturing the innovative spirit of our youth.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, stated, “Our government is committed to unlocking opportunities for younger Canadians, reducing living costs, and ensuring economic growth benefits everyone. This is how we define fairness for every generation.”

Ruby Sahota MP Brampton North added that the Budget 2024 embodies our commitment to a balanced approach between economic growth and social equity. By strategically investing in areas like housing and healthcare, we are not just fostering a stronger economy but also ensuring that the benefits of our efforts are universally accessible. “This budget is a pledge to support every Canadian, providing them with the tools they need to prosper. It’s about removing barriers and creating opportunities, ensuring that future generations will inherit a Canada that is more fair and inclusive than ever before”

This year’s budget also introduces new investments in a National School Food Program and the Canada Disability Benefit, reinforcing the government’s strategy to enhance Canada’s social safety net, including expanding child and dental care, and advancing pharmacare.

Moreover, the budget proposes to adjust the tax system, asking the wealthiest Canadians to contribute slightly more to ensure sustainable investments in the nation’s future without increasing the fiscal burden on upcoming generations.
