The City of Brampton is launching Seniors Month with a groundbreaking initiative that makes it the first municipality in Canada to offer free annual recreation memberships to residents aged 65 and older.
Mayor Patrick Brown and Regional Councillor Rowena Santos will lead the official kickoff on Tuesday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Century Gardens Recreation Centre. The event will include remarks from both officials, a demonstration of a seniors’ fitness class, and opportunities for media interviews and coverage.
The new 65+ Annual Recreation Membership is part of the city’s continued efforts to promote healthy, active lifestyles and meaningful community connections among older adults. It provides seniors with free access to Brampton’s recreation programs and facilities, reinforcing the city’s commitment to supporting aging with dignity and wellness.
“This is about recognizing the contributions of our seniors and investing in their quality of life,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “We’re proud to lead the way nationally with this initiative.”
Media attending the event are asked to register in advance by emailing mediarelations@brampton.ca by June 2 at 4:30 p.m. To facilitate setup and coverage, members of the press are encouraged to arrive by 10:45 a.m.
