Following a recent $2.4-million grant from the Province of Ontario for wetland restoration, the City of Brampton is gearing up to enhance Loafers Lake and the surrounding area. Construction is set to begin in the first week of April and will last for the remainder of the year.
To showcase the upcoming project, the city is hosting open houses at the Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre on March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on March 21 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. These events will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about the project details and connect with city staff.
During construction, Loafers Lake and a section of the Etobicoke Creek Trail will be closed, with detour routes and signage available on-site.
The collaborative effort between the City of Brampton and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority aims to enhance wetland habitat and connectivity along Etobicoke Creek from Conservation Drive Park to Loafers Lake Park.
Features of the project include improved shoreline and wetland habitat, viewing platforms, bioswales, and trail realignment at Loafers Lake. Additionally, native tree species will be planted, and grading will be adjusted to enhance water retention throughout the project area.
Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as an “incredible investment” by the Province of Ontario. He looks forward to enjoying the new trails and viewing platforms with the community once the project is completed.
