June is Recreation and Parks Month, and the City of Brampton is encouraging residents to get up, get out, and get active. This year’s theme, “Community Thrives Here,” highlights the network of parks, trails, and recreational amenities that make Brampton an excellent place to live and play.
Led by Parks and Recreation Ontario, a non-profit association that advances the health, social, and environmental benefits of quality recreation and parks through evidence-based practices, resources, and collaborative partnerships, this initiative is celebrated by municipalities, community organizations, and schools across the province.
Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “June is Recreation and Parks Month and a fantastic opportunity for residents to explore the numerous amenities our city has to offer. From fitness activities and environmental initiatives to community-building events, there is something for everyone. Our commitment to investing in and expanding these spaces ensures that Brampton remains a vibrant and healthy place to live, work, and play. Let’s get active, connect with our neighbours, and enjoy the beauty of our city.”
In honour of June is Recreation and Parks Month, the City of Brampton is offering a variety of free drop-in programs for residents of all ages. Residents are encouraged to try new activities and get moving with family and friends.
June 21 is International Yoga Day, and to celebrate, the City of Brampton is hosting a free yoga class. Everyone is welcome to join. Participants must bring a non-slip yoga mat or towel and a water bottle. Admission is free with a donation of non-perishable foods. This year, the City aims to surpass the 40 pounds of food donated during last year’s celebration. The event will be held from 7-9 pm at Mount Pleasant, 100 Commuter Dr., Brampton, ON L7A 0G2.
Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Chair of Community Services, highlighted the communal benefits of these initiatives, saying, “Recreation and parks are the heart of our community, bringing people together and enhancing our quality of life. As we celebrate Recreation and Parks Month in June with the theme ‘Community Thrives Here,’ I encourage everyone to take advantage of the wonderful parks, trails, and recreation amenities we have in Brampton.”
Brampton’s recreational trail systems offer more than 600 kilometres of guided and paved trails throughout the city, providing ample opportunities for hiking, biking, or walking.
