The Motion Picture Association announced on Wednesday that “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the anticipated sequel to 2019’s “Joker,” has been classified with an R rating. The film, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, received the rating due to “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity,” according to the MPA’s daily ratings bulletin.
Directed by Todd Phillips, “Joker: Folie à Deux” features Phoenix reprising his role as the titular character, with Gaga joining the cast as his enigmatic lover, Harley Quinn. The ensemble also includes Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, Variety revealed in March that the film will largely be a jukebox musical, incorporating over 15 reimagined versions of popular songs. Notably, one of these songs is rumored to be “That’s Entertainment” from the classic 1953 musical “The Band Wagon.”
Following the immense success of its predecessor, which garnered over $1 billion worldwide and earned Joaquin Phoenix an Academy Award for Best Actor, “Joker: Folie à Deux” is highly anticipated by audiences. Scheduled for release on October 4 by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film marks another significant step in Gaga’s burgeoning acting career, following her acclaimed performances in “A Star Is Born” and “House of Gucci
