GTA Mourns Fallen Officer as Funeral Arrangements Announced for Constable Marc Pinizzotto

The Greater Toronto Area continues to mourn the tragic loss of Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto, a Mississauga native and devoted father of two who was killed in the line of duty while serving his community.

Toronto Police announced that funeral services for the 43-year-old officer will be held on June 24 at 1 p.m. at the Toronto Congress Centre. The ceremony is expected to bring together family members, friends, fellow officers, emergency responders, and community leaders to honour a man remembered for his courage, dedication, and service.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to pay their respects by observing the funeral procession as it travels from the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home to the funeral venue. While the service itself will not be open to the general public, police officials have acknowledged the overwhelming support shown by residents across the region following the officer’s death.

Constable Pinizzotto, a member of the Toronto Police Service for 18 years and a five-year veteran of the Emergency Task Force, was fatally shot on June 11 while executing a search warrant in North York. The operation was connected to an investigation involving a series of shootings across the Greater Toronto Area.

Known as a dedicated officer and family man, Pinizzotto leaves behind his wife, Andrea, and their two children, Daniella and Dominic. His death has sent shockwaves throughout the policing community and beyond.

Police have identified 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett as the suspect in the case. He is expected to face a first-degree murder charge and remains hospitalized after being wounded during the incident.

In a lasting tribute to the fallen officer, Mississauga City Council is considering a proposal to rename Indian Gate Park in the Lorne Park neighbourhood as Constable Marc Pinizzotto Park. The park is located near the area where Pinizzotto grew up, and city officials say the renaming would serve as a permanent reminder of his service and sacrifice.

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish has expressed strong support for the initiative, stating that the city is grieving the loss of one of its own. She indicated that council is expected to unanimously approve the renaming proposal.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw described Pinizzotto as a hero whose legacy should be defined by the way he lived rather than the circumstances of his death. He emphasized the profound impact the loss has had on the officer’s family, colleagues, and the entire Toronto Police Service.

The tragedy marks one of two devastating losses suffered by Ontario law enforcement agencies in the span of a week. Just days earlier, Tarun Bali, an Ontario Provincial Police officer from Brampton, was killed while on duty during an investigation in northern Ontario.

Bali, who had served with the OPP for nearly three years, was struck and killed while carrying out his duties near Hearst. Authorities have charged an 18-year-old man with first-degree murder in connection with his death.

As funeral preparations move forward, communities across Mississauga, Brampton, and Toronto are coming together to honour the memory of two officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the public. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting others will not be forgotten.
