Graham McGregor Appointed as Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism in Premier Doug Ford’s Cabinet

Premier Doug Ford announced a significant cabinet shuffle, appointing Graham McGregor, MPP for Brampton North, as the new Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. McGregor steps into the role previously held by Michael D. Ford, MPP for York South—Weston, marking a new chapter for the ministry dedicated to fostering inclusion, combating racism, and celebrating Ontario’s diverse cultural heritage.

Graham McGregor, a lifelong Brampton resident, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to public service to his new position. Elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2022 provincial election as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party, McGregor has quickly established himself as a tireless advocate for his community. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform, a role he assumed on August 16, 2024, where he spearheaded initiatives to enhance community safety and address pressing public concerns.

“Graham McGregor is a results-driven leader who embodies the spirit of Brampton North and Ontario as a whole,” said Premier Doug Ford. “His dedication to building stronger, more inclusive communities makes him the perfect choice to lead the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. I’m confident he will deliver on our promise to create an Ontario where everyone feels they belong.”

McGregor’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the ministry, which is tasked with leading the province’s anti-racism initiatives, promoting equitable economic opportunities, and preserving Ontario’s rich cultural heritage. His extensive background in public service, including roles within the Ontario Government at the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, equips him with the insight and expertise needed to advance these priorities.

Born and raised in Brampton, McGregor’s roots run deep in the community he now serves. His early career included working with former Brampton-Springdale MP Parm Gill and Brampton West MPP Amarjot Sandhu, experiences that ignited his passion for public service. This dedication was further honed during his nearly two-year tenure as the Ontario PC Party’s Regional Vice President for Toronto, where he championed grassroots engagement and community-focused policies.

“I am deeply honored to take on this role as Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism,” said McGregor. “Ontario is a province built on diversity, resilience, and opportunity. My focus will be on ensuring every Ontarian—regardless of background—has the chance to thrive, while celebrating the unique contributions that make our province so vibrant. This is personal for me; Brampton is my home, and I’m committed to delivering results that matter to all of our communities.”

Reflecting on his appointment, McGregor added, “Being entrusted with this portfolio is a privilege and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. I’m excited to work with communities across Ontario to break down barriers, build bridges, and create a future where every voice is heard and every culture is valued. This is about real action for real people, and I’m ready to get to work.”

Gian Paul, director of the Flower City Friends Club, a prominent Brampton-based organization focused on uniting and supporting seniors from diverse backgrounds, welcomed McGregor’s appointment. “Graham McGregor’s leadership is a win for Brampton and all of Ontario,” said Paul. “His commitment to community and understanding of our multicultural fabric will strengthen our efforts to bring people together. We look forward to partnering with him to ensure our seniors and diverse communities are supported and celebrated.”

McGregor replaces Michael D. Ford, who served as Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism since June 24, 2022, following his election victory in York South—Weston. Ford, the nephew of Premier Doug Ford, announced a temporary leave of absence from cabinet in September 2024 to prioritize his health and well-being, during which time McGregor briefly acted as an associate minister fulfilling Ford’s duties. Today’s appointment formalizes McGregor’s leadership of the ministry.

Under McGregor’s stewardship, the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism is expected to continue its work with community partners, including the Premier’s Council on Equality of Opportunity and the Anti-Racism Directorate, to address systemic barriers and promote a sense of belonging across the province. His prior success in advancing infrastructure projects, improving healthcare access, and tackling auto theft in Brampton North signals a proactive approach to his new portfolio.

Residents of Brampton North and beyond can expect McGregor to bring the same energy and focus to this role that has defined his tenure as MPP. His office remains open to constituents seeking assistance with provincial services, offering support ranging from navigating Ontario Works to arranging celebratory greetings for special occasions.
