Google’s $32 Billion Wiz Win: Cybersecurity Gets a Cloud-Sized Boost

Google’s parent, Alphabet, is dropping a cool $32 billion to snap up cybersecurity hotshot Wiz, sealing the tech titan’s priciest deal ever. Announced Tuesday, this all-cash blockbuster aims to supercharge Google Cloud’s game in the AI-fueled race against Amazon and Microsoft, with a laser focus on locking down the cloud.

“Wiz and Google Cloud share a vision: make security simple, smart, and open so everyone can ride the cloud and AI wave without worry,” said Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport in a blog post. He doubled down, noting the deal “bolsters our mission to stop breaches with more resources and AI muscle.” Google CEO Sundar Pichai chimed in: “Together, we’ll turbocharge cloud security and multi-cloud flexibility.”

Born in 2020 and headquartered in New York, Wiz crafts tools to shield data stashed in far-off servers from digital prowlers. It’s a prize Google’s been chasing—last July, Wiz snubbed a $23 billion offer, but Alphabet’s back with a bigger bag. If regulators greenlight it, Wiz plugs straight into Google Cloud, juicing up a division hungry to outpace its rivals.

The catch? Antitrust watchdogs are sharpening their pencils. Trump’s crew might cheer business wins, but Big Tech’s still got a target on its back. New FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson’s promising a hard look at mega-mergers, so this deal’s not a done deal yet. For now, Alphabet’s betting big that Wiz is the key to ruling the cloud—and dodging the breach bullet.
