A tragic incident unfolded in Caledon on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a 58-year-old driver from Mono, Ontario. The collision, involving his passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle, occurred on Humber Station Road, just north of King Street.
According to a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon detachment, emergency services were summoned to the crash site shortly before 11 a.m. The driver, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was critically injured after his vehicle rear-ended the commercial vehicle.
First responders airlifted the man to a trauma centre in the Toronto area, where he was later pronounced dead.
The accident prompted authorities to close a stretch of Humber Station Road for several hours as officers conducted their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. The road has since been reopened.
The OPP continues to investigate the fatal incident and is appealing to witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward. This tragedy adds to the concerns over road safety in areas frequented by both commercial and passenger vehicles.
